Network wars, polylog and script convention in socially destructive online groups

Bakshutova E.V.

Abstract

Socio-cognitive modeling of network communications discourses is associated with the changeof the research vector from «descriptive» to «modeling» language phenomena and processes. The article focuses on some types of modeling of cognitive methods for the prevention of psychological threats to public welfare. The paper presents the method of scripting online - groups in the convention of humanization of group opinion, based on teaching methods, attitude to the situation of discussion, excluding destructiveness. Negative emotional reactions revealed by us in network communications (collective fears, aggression, resentment), as well as cognitive models of political extremism and intellectual terrorism allowed us to construct a coding matrix that includes a description of the phenomena of destruction and their linguistic psychological markers. Based on the hypothesis that constructive conventionalization of the discussion can be achieved with 30 % of the conventional writing positions, we conducted an experiment in the Russian-speaking sector of the social networking site Facebook. In the article, the example of three discussions started on May 18, 2019 (dedicated to the opposition of citizens in Yekaterinburg due to the construction of the temple and the death of the journalist S. Dorenko) shows that constructive implantation of the script can be carried out by the author / moderator of the discussion and by the participant / reader both unconsciously and consciously.

Gradaleva E.A., Houston M.

Abstract

The article describes implementation of project-based learning within the scope of different academic disciplines at a technical university. The research aims at analyzing various problem points that teachers face while organizing project work of students. The reasons complicating proliferation of project-based learning are observed. Methodology includes analysis of pedagogical studies, examination of project-based activities at universities, interviewing, and questionnaire survey. The findings lead to the conclusion that project-based learning is interesting for the majority of educators and is considered to be an effective type of activity. However, it is not widely used at a technical university. This happens because of a number o f difficulties that occur in the process of project planning and implementation. These are the issues of keeping up motivation, the lack of time for doing projects and presenting results, unwillingness of students to take up self-studies, problems with control and assessment, unevenly distributed learning. The author proves the necessity of teacher professional development in this sphere. The most important units of the programme have been specified. It is recommended that the course trains educators to plan projects with due regard to curriculum, to share knowledge and develop skills significant in a specific area of studies, to nurture contemporary co mpetencies, such as confidence, perseverance, innovative thinking, creativity, flexibility, openness, sociability, teamwork. Moreover, the article describes the importance of discussing the methods of implementing short-term and international projects. According to the research, these types of project work are organized less frequently than the other ones.

Development of transprofessional competitions as a new task for methods of foreign language teaching

Gridneva N.A., Oparina K.S.

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of transprofessional competences development by teaching foreign language in the professional education system. Its urgency is determined by considerably growing demand for specialists, which have not only well highly-specified competences, but also capacity for multidimensional activities and for successful work in an interdisciplinary team. Furthermore, the level of the study of the problem under consideration is theoretically and practically insufficient. Transprofessional competences are regarded as competences providing the ability of an employee to work beyond his or her obtained profession, to apply technologies of other professional spheres, to master new competences and find non-standard solutions. The discipline “Foreign language”, as shown in the article, has a high potential for development of transprofessional competences. But according to the results of our pretesting this potential remains predominantly unrealized: the foreign language teaching process is mostly organized based on former, partially outdated ideas about probable professional needs of a modern engineer. In the article we set a goal to elaborate methodological procedures for improvement of effectiveness of teacher’s work for that matter. We report on the most vital theoretical and practical aspects of our further vocational training course program, which we prepared for foreign language teachers to help them to choose more appropriate learning content and technologies and to perfect their skills needed for the most effective application of them.

Using "peer review" method for language assessment

Korovina I.V., Konstantinova D.V., Safonkina O.S.

Abstract

The article discusses the peer review method in reference to the assessment of students’ language knowledge. This method provides consistent analysis, which results in assessment criteria and study assignments in a short period of time. The aim of the study is to analyze the functional features and effectiveness of this method. In the process, the authors employed such research methods as the comparative analysis, questionnaires, descriptive method, and statistical method. As a result of the study the authors developed such evaluation criteria that can evaluate the specific features of such genre as an essay. That effects stylistic and functional characteristics that differ the essay from an article. The advantages and disadvantages of the peer review method were identified, among which, among other things, it was noted that peer review helps to engage students in the educational process and develops critical thinking in them. It analyzed the list of linguo-didactic functions of this method and discussed the students’ attitude to the use of the “peer review” method in teaching foreign languages in relation to the assessment of linguistic knowledge and skills. In addition, the authors conclud on that checking grammar and vocabulary in written works should remain the prerogative of the teacher, because teachers remain more competent in these aspects than students. In this regard, the effectiveness of the peer review method is achieved if both the author and the reviewer have the same level of knowledge in the field of foreign language writing practice, and, accordingly, comparable writing skills in a foreign language.

Development and psychometric verification of body existence diagnostics (BED)

Lutsik M.Y., Drongo A.V.

Abstract

Existential givenness is the main categories with which work takes place in existential analysis for the actualization of client being. Despite this, they have little operationalization and are poorly accessible to quantitative measurement methods. They are often investigated only through phenomenological means, which limits the possibilities of working with them. Especially it concerns the measurement of physicality, which has recently been discarded in favor of ontocentric spheres. Because of this, it is not always possible to understand the phenomenology of the inner world fairly accurately and in an accessible way, because the main existential, expressed in the possibility of being physically in this world, is not taken into account. It is also impossible to standardize the method of work and explore its effectiveness of psychotherapy without special tools. On the basis of this, the diagnosis of existential corporeality was developed. It investigated as a multidimensional phenomenon of the client's experience of its physical manifestation in the world. Specific methodological foundations were identified for creating diagnostics. The structure of the methodology and stimulus material was developed, which for the most part confirmed in factor analysis, only the Umwelt sphere - the objective world does not fully correspond to the expected characteristics. Convergent validity was established, which confirmed the subject of this tool, and also revealed the structure of bodily existential, which affects all other ontological characteristics. It confirms the hypothesis of necessary physicality basis for being. All major psychometric parameters were established, DET has high rates of convergent, prognostic and structural validity and reliability. This diagnosis can be used in practical work of a psychologist in the role of screening diagnosis, or the same as the reference stimulus material to be discussed at the session and allowing client to directly face the existential sphere of being.

Structural components of readiness of students of non-linguistic faculties for the realization of intercultural communication

Morozkina L.G.

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of readiness of students of non-linguistic specialties for the realization of intercultural communication in their future professional activity. We are talking about the competitiveness of graduates of non-linguistic universities in the conditions of the modern labor market. Relying on the fact that the notion of “readiness of a person for an activity” is defined by the author not as a temporary state, but as a stable property of a person acting constantly, the author distinguishes three structural components of the readiness of students of non-inguistic faculties to realizе intercultural communication - cognitive (knowledge about the real picture of the world, about the linguistic and cultural picture of the world), technological (ability to communicate in accordance with the cultural characteristics of the native speakers) and reflexive-evaluative (students’ skills to build and analyze the achieved results in the realization of intercultural communication and the motives). In order to form these structural components of readiness, three blocks of student training are identified: content block, technological and resulting blocks. The content block includes the knowledge of the correspondences and differences of cultural and linguistic-cultural facts, traditions, customs, customs of the native culture and the culture of the country of the language being studied. The technological block includes the forms and methods of teaching students of non- linguistic faculties how to realizе intercultural communication. The resulting block contains an evaluation of students’ knowledge and skills by the teacher. The completeness of the cognitive component of student readiness (knowledge of an intercultural nature) was determined by the author using a questionnaire. The completeness of technological and reflexive-evaluative components of the readiness of students of non-linguistic faculties to realizе intercultural communication was determined by assessing the students’ ability to perform intercultural tasks.

Solnyshkina M.I., Yarmakeev I.E., Gafiyatova E.V., Ismaeva F.K.

Abstract

The article explores the problem of automatic quantitative assessment of text complexity and thematic segmentation of texts. The authors offer a brief description of the state of affairs in this area including the fact that the existing formulas for text readability index are genredependent and lose their reliability when used for texts of other genres. Based on the corpus of educational texts and analysis of quantitative text parameters, we suggest a new way of text ranking so that they correspond linguistic abilities of pupils. The study was carried out on the material of UMK Spotlight 11, the corpus used in the study comprises 38 texts of 12891 tokens in total. The methods used were topic segmentation, component analysis, statistical analysis, Flash-Kincaid readability Texts complexity assessment showed that the dynamics of texts with tasks (1) testing skimming abilities is from more complex to less complex (-0.2); (2) testing scanning abilities is from less complex to more (+0.4); (3) in the texts for intensive reading, text readability rose by 5.2. The thematic segmentation performed based on Monkey Learn revealed the vocabulary of 15 topics that, during the school year, are offered to students on average 3-5 times. The most frequent theme is "Humanities", the reference to which is revealed in 9 modules. It is significant that textbook authors offer the following topics Gardening, Computers & Internet, Science & Mathematics, Entertainment& Recreation only once during the school year.
