Emotional intelligence and pedagogical intuition

Garipova Y.M.

Abstract

Teachers are increasingly faced with the need to act quickly, in today's environment. There are due, in particular, to the widespread emergency transition to distance learning. A key quality for the educator is mobility and the ability to make professional decisions quickly related to the development of pedagogical intuition. According to most scientists who have studied the phenomenon of intuition, in particular, A.S. Carmin and E.S. Haikin, intuition is seen as an experience of emotional perception of images. Therefore, this paper suggests that the development of intuition should be directly related to the development of emotional intelligence. A pilot study was carried out on Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University graduate students. The sample consisted of 50 young men and women, who were diagnosed using three methods: "Emotional intelligence" by J. Mayer, P. Salovey and D. Caruso; "Intuition in the structure of self-regulation of activity" by I.V. Vasilyeva and "Intuition ideas" by P.E. Grigoriev and I.V. Vasilyeva. As a result of the research, statistically significant results were obtained on two scales of the mentioned methods.

Communicative skills development using interactive technologies

Gorlova E.A., Polukhina M.O., Ershova O.V.

Abstract

The paper considers one of the most important technologies in teaching Russian as a foreign language - interactive learning. The use of this technology helps to increase the effectiveness of training and the development of students' motivation, as it is aimed at realizing the main goal, which is to enhance speaking competence, using dialogue forms of communication in each lesson. The paper describes examples of interactive learning technologies that can be used when teaching Russian as a foreign language. However, the authors of the paper believe that it is not possible to make the process fully interactive in the modern context due to the lack of both technical equipment and a complete educational and methodological complex. The authors see a partial solution to this problem in the creation and further use of authentic materials. This didactic technique allows you to increase interest in the subject under study, to form and develop both linguoculturological and communicative competencies. This paper presents an authentic set of interactive teaching tasks developed by the authors for the Russian as a foreign language lesson. The lesson plan is shown, and the results of introducing the technology are described using the example of separate exercises. Having implemented the lesson plan, the authors have come to certain conclusions. So, for example, based on the active participation of students and the interest shown in the topic of the lesson, the authors believe that the language material was chosen successfully. The motivation of students plays a vital role in the acquiring of educational material, and therefore in the development of communicative competence.

The use of authentic songs in teaching Russian as a foreign language on A1-A2 level

Gridneva N.A., Vladimirova S.M.

Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of authentic songs’ usage at the initial stage of Russian as foreign language teaching. The inclusion of authentic materials in the educative process is an exclusive requirement of the modern methods of teaching languages: it enables to study language in its symbiotic relationship with the culture of native speakers. The well-thought-out work with authentic songs on A1-A2 level can be not less effective than on other levels, the need for it is here well established too. Nonetheless the authentic song seldom comes into use when teaching beginners, in the methodical literature this question is not often written about too. All this speaks for a low degree of development of methods of authentic songs’ using at the initial stage (including RFL). Our purpose here is to justify the need for this work, to elicit its potential. Regarding the song as a phenomenon of national culture we research its essential features, which determine its high methodological and pedagogical potential: authenticity, musical component, textual component, artistic nature and language material. Immediacy of this potential for the initial stage of Russian as foreign language teaching, as well as some ways of its realization are exemplified by song “Vasja” (music band “Bravo”).

Changing educational trends in the context of global digitalization of society

Ermakova Y.D.

Abstract

The fourth industrial revolution affects all spheres of life of modern society and economy. In contrast to previous revolutions, when the structure and organization of universities were relatively intact, the combination of technology with artificial intelligence is being implemented more and more deeply and on a larger scale in many areas of the educational system around the world. The very concept of 'deep learning', which is key to progress in the use of digital resources and artificial intelligence, changes the basic, well-established goals of universities and can create new competition for them. This, in turn, entails an inevitable change in the overall paradigm of teaching, education and self-education, and the implementation of ongoing research, which requires a fundamental re-evaluation and transformation of the entire educational model. Whether universities will cope with this task will become obvious in the near future, but it is already impossible to ignore, that is, simply ignore the opening prospects. Global digitalization can provide a high-quality educational environment to stimulate interest in educational resources, which contributes to the formation of a conscious, urgent need for obtaining high-quality higher education. Interactive and digital technologies support students’ involvement in the learning process and improve the learning process as a whole, making it more intuitive and adaptive. Innovative resources also provide an opportunity for self-development by targeting students for research activities. Such technologies allow many students outside of a University or other educational institution from all over the world to participate in scientific discoveries through web audiences and joint online projects. In addition to improving the quality of education, the latest technologies can make education available to a much larger number of applicants. However, the results of the analysis of potential and already implemented methods using interactive scientific developments allow us to come to the conclusion that we should not forget that high-quality education at the highest professional level requires personal and subjective attention, which cannot be automated. The author's conclusions obtained from the analysis of publications on this issue are the value of the study and can be applied in the implementation of the educational process in the context of global digitalization at many stages of education.

Igumnova O.V.

Abstract

Foreign language at higher school reflects the specific of the students’ forthcoming professional activity. Decade-old publications prove the need of including case study in a foreign language teaching, the stages of working with the case are revealed. However, the case study method will promote the language teaching effectiveness, if a student is ready to work with cases. The purpose of this paper is to indicate the possible consistency of the methods of teaching a professionally-oriented foreign language at junior courses of non-linguistic universities, as well as the place of the case study in them from the point of view of the effectiveness of its application. When writing the paper, such theoretical research methods as analysis, synthesis, systematization, generalization, abstraction, design and modeling of the educational process as well as case study application evaluation criteria were used. Such an approach to the generalization of private teaching experience makes it possible to identify pedagogical conditions of case study application efficiency in teaching and learning activities, to specify the strategic and tactical language learning process design with cases in mind and to present the modeling of teaching within one topic. The author agrees that the case study allows assessing the students’ level of foreign language competence formation. At the same time, it is noted that the case study application evaluation should consist of components that track the overall curricular actions of the language trainer from the beginning to the completion of the study of the topic. In this regard, it is necessary to evaluate the quality of the case analysis completed by students, the availability, logic, consistency and literacy of their statement of the case issues, as well as the ability to operate the actual material studied within the topic, students’ readiness for dialogue and the use of compensatory skills to realize their own communicative intention. The proposed criteria and stages of modeling teaching and learning activities can be used in practice.

Features of studying a communicative discourse within a competence approach

Maksimyuk E.V.

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the need to include tasks aimed at a comprehensive analysis of the extra-linguistic factors of the communication situation in the teaching aids. Understanding the external context will allow us to create the conditions for effective decision making based on the use of sociocultural experience. The author demonstrates that the introduction of contextual analysis with an emphasis on socio-psychological content will make the process of teaching foreign languages practical-oriented and will contribute to the formation of competencies necessary for foreign language communication. Particular emphasis is placed on the genre filling of speech. Since genres of communication are a verbal reflection of the types of social interaction of people. The speech genre is the norm necessary for the realization of a communicative goal within the framework of the chosen message format. The specificity of communication is due to the unique combination of socio-psychological elements that determine the nature of the relationship within it. The paper describes and analyzes the thematic and genre content, taking into account the psycho-emotional characteristics of speech in the framework of professional communication between the boss (Dr. Cuddy) and his subordinate (Dr. House). The study used methods: contextual, genre, cognitive-semantic and comparative analysis. The author demonstrates that contextual analysis is an effective way of forming and implementing value-semantic, cultural, educational, cognitive and informational competence. Since knowledge and understanding of the role of extra-linguistic factors in the communication process largely determine the success of communication and the degree of effectiveness of using various language tools and speech tactics and strategies. The inclusion in the educational and methodological complexes for teaching a foreign language of tasks aimed at analyzing an external context that is close to real will contribute to the implementation of new approaches to teaching foreign languages in higher education, the further implementation of new federal state standards, and contribute to the achievement of the main goal of teaching foreign languages - the formation of a secondary linguistic personality, ready for foreign language communication in a multicultural world in a pandemic circumstances.

Teaching Russian students to analyze the syntactic structure of sentences in modern Chinese (Mandarin)

Skvortsov A.V., Malykh O.A.

Abstract

The paper deals with methodological issues of teaching senior students of language universities to analyze the syntactic structure of sentences in modern Chinese at the phrase level. The technology of teaching Russian students to analyze the syntactic structure of sentences in modern Chinese is presented in the following stages: 1) theoretical explanation of the classification of phrases in modern Chinese and methods of mastering this phenomenon by students; 2) introduction to five different ways of syntactic analysis of sentences at the phrase level; 3) presentation of features of the analysis "from small to large"; 4) improvement of skills of independent analysis of offers by students using the specified method. Much attention is paid to the order of establishment of relations between lexical items in phrases, combined with each other semantically. At the same time, in the developed technology, it is recommended to analyze the group of subject and predicate separately, performing an analysis from right to left. When faced with more difficult cases - long complicated sentences, the authors recommend analyzing the sentence in both directions, both from left to right and from right to left. Russian translation is recommended when determining the type of a phrase in Chinese. It is recommended that you translate the phrase into Russian, set its type in Russian, and then make a conclusion about the type of this phrase based on the typology used in Chinese. The existing limitations of using this method are discussed. As the main method of analyzing the syntactic structure of Chinese sentences, the analysis "from small to large" is chosen as the most convenient in implementation and allows parsing long complicated sentences.

A personalized approach in education: problems and prospects

Urusova L.K.

Abstract

In the modern education system, one of the strategic priorities is the theoretical and methodological understanding and practical implementation of personality-oriented learning. The paper considers the problem of implementing a personified approach in the process of education and training. The author's vision of a personality-oriented approach is stated. Some theses of psychology and pedagogy are studied to build the concept of an individual approach in education and training. The author tried to develop a mechanism for the implementation of a personality-oriented approach in teaching a foreign language in a higher educational institution. The study made it possible to argue that in the psychological and pedagogical science there is currently a wide range of conceptual approaches to solving this problem. However, common feature is the emergence as a subject of the learner personality, creating the necessary conditions for his full learning and development. The initial assumption was confirmed by the study that the implementation of personality-oriented learning will be possible if this process is designed as a joint learning and cognitive activity of the learner and learner, aimed at the harmonious and comprehensive development of the learner.

Module to scaffold the process of filling grant documents in English

Swartz C., Valeeva E.E.

Abstract

In order for students and professors to advance their educational and professional careers as well as become competitive specialists in the modern world of science and technology, it is essential for them to apply for international grant programs that allow them to take part in internships abroad. Currently, there are several foreign programs offered in Russia that provide financial support for students to participate in internships abroad. Unfortunately, studentsstudying in Russia often do not possess the skills necessary to complete foreign language documents correctly. This barrier reduces their chance to successfully pass through several stages of the selection process to secure full financial support while competing amongst a large number of applicants. As a solution to this issue, the authors offer for a module to be introduced into existing curricula, which will teach students how to complete grant documents in English. This module can be introduced in foreign language courses at any level, that are aimed at preparing students to receive a higher education. The content of the module was developed based on the analysis of foreign practices of studying an academic letter, which includes in itself, the preparation of the necessary documentation for grant programs. The module consists of an overview lecture that outlines different grant programs and their English language websites, where a full list of the necessary documentation needed to apply to the respective program is included. In order to submit a strong application for an international internship opportunity, a student should comprehend the rules of writing a statement of purpose as well as recommendation letters. Applicants should also be prepared to answer questions presented to them during an interview with representatives of the program for which they have applied. The main goal of the proposed module is to teach students how to effectively communicate per the requirements and objectives set forth by these grant programs. This module will allow for the development of critical thinking skills necessary to present application materials in a logical and structured manner, in both Russian and English.
