Education and culture: cross-cultural analysis
Dobrova V.V.
Abstract

The paper deals with the basic pedagogical categories of education, training, upbringing in cross-cultural aspect. The differences in the conceptual apparatus of domestic and foreign pedagogy in the definition of education, as well as in the allocation of upbringing and training as components of education are shown. Recently, the content of education is largely understood as a projection of the main components of culture. Culture is an umbrella term that includes all the material and non-material aspects of any human society. The understanding of «culture» is important for pedagogy in general, since it is the transfer of culture that is the purpose of education, which is recognized by the whole world pedagogy. Education is understood as a process of transfer – appropriation of culturally formalized samples of human activity and its results in the form of knowledge, ways of activity, attitudes, values. Education is the basis for the transfer and sometimes transformation of culture. Understanding this interaction is difficult because «education» and «culture» are difficult to define precisely, and also because the interaction goes in both directions: culture influences education, and education influences culture.

The problems of preserving the emotional well-being of students in the context of digitalization of education
Cherdyntseva E.V., Yakubenko O.V.
Abstract

In the conditions of modern society, the problems of emotional well-being of students are becoming particularly relevant. This is due to the challenges of the digital society, which include constant updating of information, multitasking activities, continuous stay of users in the digital environment, and others. These risk factors contribute to the emotional distress of the individual, which manifests itself in insufficient formation of emotional intelligence, increased anxiety, and behavioral disorders of students. Prolonged emotional distress in the future can lead to disharmonious personal development of a person and difficulties in his social functioning. Therefore, the formation of emotional well-being is an urgent task of pedagogy and psychology of childhood. The aim of the study is to determine the level of emotional well-being of students in the context of digitalization of education. The diagnosis of problems of emotional well-being was carried out according to the following criteria: the manifestation of emotional intelligence (the method of observation according to M.Y. Mikhailina and Ya.K. Nelyubina); the level of anxiety (G.V. Rezapkina’s testing method «Determining the level of anxiety»); the severity of aggressive behavior (M.A. Panfilova’s projective Cactus technique). The analysis of the data obtained allowed us to identify the following problems of preserving the emotional well-being of students: insufficient level of emotional intelligence, increased anxiety, high degree of aggressive behavior. Based on the identified results, methodological recommendations were developed for teachers and parents to solve these problems. The value of the conducted research consists in determining pedagogical approaches to the formation of emotional well-being of students in the context of digitalization of education, which will ensure the optimization of the introduction of information technologies into the modern educational space. This will lead to the preservation of the emotional well-being of all participants in the educational process.

WID approach in teaching research writing to engineering postgraduate students
Shpit E.I.
Abstract

Academic (research) writing in the English language is a key professional skill, in particular, in engineering sciences. However, most Russian-speaking researchers have challenges in choosing rhetoric that would comply with the norms and traditions of a disciplinary discourse community. Therefore, the most relevant approach in teaching research writing to postgraduate students is «writing in the discipline» (WID) that focuses on the rhetoric conventions of a discipline. In this paper, we present the experience of using the results and implications of the analyses of scientific-engineering discourse in teaching research writing to postgraduate engineering students and the verification of the efficiency of such teaching experience. To verify the efficiency, we employed the comparative analysis of two types of writing: of international researchers and of postgraduates who completed the course. The results show that, postgraduate writing does not differ from the writing of international researchers in 20 out of 41 text features and demonstrate a successful acquisition of the new knowledge and skills, especially from the zone of proximal development. However, the remaining features illustrate considerable difference between the two types of writing. The totality of possible reasons proves the complexity of the research writing phenomenon and implies that the improvement of disciplinary skills in academic writing require continuous and systematic practice not only in the postgraduate program but throughout the university studies as well.

Speaking unplugged, or what to do to get ESL students chatting (from a teaching experience at a technical university)
Karakozova E.N., Perevezentseva Y.S.
Abstract

The present paper describes an experiment aimed at the development and promotion of communication skills in students at technical higher educational institutions. This article analyzes the possibilities of such an interactive method as free-speaking activity in English classes with a group of students for whom verbal communication was not of interest due to the inability to listen to the interlocutor, differences in the level of language proficiency, and psychological incompatibility with people involved in communication. The principle of training laid down in the research implied a certain sequence of actions that had specific goals and training objectives. The study is based on the comparative analysis of the results of role-play interviews performed by students – “job seekers” – prior to and after the application of the aforementioned approach. The results obtained, first of all, indicate the possibility of successfully regulating the balance of communicative activity in the classroom, which naturally reduces the time of speaking for the teacher and increases the time for developing and improving speaking skills for students. Second, through the use of this method, students overcame psychological barriers caused by the fear of speaking and making mistakes. In general, the experiment facilitated not only influencing the improvement of students’ speaking skills, but also discovering the high potential of the free-speaking activity method for non-linguistic universities, where, as is known, foreign language learning is not a leading subject.

Patriotic education of a student’s linguistic personality (on the example of the academic discipline «Lawyer’s speech culture»)
Ryadovykh N.A.
Abstract

The paper considers the possibility of a comprehensive educational impact on the patriotic development of a student’s linguistic personality when mastering a speech discipline. Currently, the patriotic consciousness of young people becomes the basis of national security and acquires strategic importance in state policy. In higher education, including law school, the issues of patriotism are given great importance. The formation of a future professional correlates with the idea of the phenomenon of linguistic personality, reflecting communicative and ideological features. At present, the linguodidactic potential of patriotic education of students during the study of foreign languages is being actively studied. It seems relevant to combine the educational and educational process in the native language as part of the study of the discipline of speech culture. The purpose of the study is to develop methodological recommendations for the preparation of text tasks that ensure the formation of the linguistic personality of a law school student in the aspect of patriotic education based on the material of the academic discipline «Lawyer’s speech Culture». In the process of research, teaching methods are used that provide for the cognitive activity of students. The educational component is provided by the content of text tasks that actualize in practice the theoretical basis of the speech discipline. As a result of the research, it is revealed that the content of patriotic texts as part of didactic tasks, as well as topics related to issues of patriotism proposed for discussion at debates, cause a great emotional response among students. Performing tasks, students express correct value judgments, which indicates the effectiveness of educational influence. The conducted research in practice confirms the effectiveness of the educational approach that contributes to the development of patriotic consciousness of the student’s linguistic personality.

The role of autonomous learning in the study of grammar by economics and foreign language students (pedagogical profile with two areas of training)
Shvaikina N.S., Popel A.A., Volova V.M.
Abstract

Currently, an integral part of the learning process is the development and honing of the skills of competent use of a foreign language – the most important criterion in any field. The sphere of economics and pedagogy is no exception, because specialists in the presented direction should formulate thoughts succinctly, both in written and oral forms. In pedagogical science, there is a search for effective means to improve grammatical skills and abilities. In this paper, the authors present autonomous learning as an effective tool in the study of grammar, which implies that students should have the opportunity to learn the rules themselves and consolidate them in practice. Autonomous learning implies the improvement of self-regulation and critical thinking, which, in turn, is extremely important in possible non-standard situations that may arise in the course of professional activity. The limitless possibilities of autonomous learning are various online resources, interactive tasks, audio and video materials, electronic literature, grammar exercises. It is thanks to such aspects that students enrich their vocabulary, as well as significantly improve their pronunciation and text construction skills. The aim of the work is to reveal the specifics of the format of autonomous learning by students of the direction "Economics and foreign language" in the study of grammar. The object of the study is the field of formation of autonomous learning skills in the study of grammar. The subject of the study is the introduction of M. Schmitt’s autonomous model "Integrated Learning" in the process of studying grammar of students in the specialties "Economics and foreign language". The scientific novelty of this research is expressed in the creation of its own autonomous learning model and its components. The practical significance of the work is in the possible application of the proposed exercises in autonomous learning by students of the specialization under study. The results of this study will contribute to the field of linguodidactics, as well as attract the attention of teachers, students and all interested parties to innovative approaches in teaching grammar. In addition, the findings allow us to identify effective strategies for autonomous learning that can be used in teaching practice in any field.

Psychological health of the future teacher in the process of professional development within the framework of the ecopsychological approach
Filonenko I.S.
Abstract

The development of a high level of psychological health among university students is closely connected with an active life and professional position, or in other words, with their subjectivity. In conditions of the ecopsychological approach to the development of the psyche, the subjective qualities of the student must go through seven stages. According to the principle of fractality, the effectiveness of the development of each stage is determined by the development of seven cognitive-regulatory abilities in their subject. The importance of strengthening the psychological health of students is especially relevant today, when the main indicator of personality-oriented education is the interaction and mutual development of the personalities of the teacher and student, and the development of a system of professional values and goals of future teachers begins during university training. The research is aimed at identifying priority vectors of psychological health among university students at various stages of subjectivity formation, and their relationship with cognitive-regulatory abilities that ensure the formation of each of the stages, as well as to determine the development of the structure of psychological health. The study was conducted by methods of diagnostics of the stages of subjectivity development, the ability to perform educational actions and "Individual model of psychological health". This pilot study shows the relationship between the components of the model of psychological health of future teachers, the process of subjectivity development and fostering the ability to perform educational actions during their studies at the university. If at the beginning of the training, the interaction of students in a group was at the initial stage, students were just beginning to show their individuality, reveal their creative abilities, then by the end of the training, communication in a group, joint activity, creative expression and self-expression became more significant.

Features of speech development of children born by cesarean section
Babina E.A., Zhdanova S.Y.
Abstract

Speech impairment in children is a multidisciplinary problem that is currently relevant and requires the study of likely risk factors. Among the causes of this speech pathology, some researchers will also highlight the way of delivery. The paper provides data of empirical research of peculiarities of speech development of children born with the help of caesarean section surgery and having no perinatal pathology at birth. The study was carried out on a sample of 104 young children, 77 of them were born naturally and 27 were born by caesarean section. In the course of the study the methods of observation, questioning of parents and testing of children using the methods «Diagnostics of neuro-mental development of early children» (Pantukhina G.V., Pechora K.L., Frucht E.L.) and «Complex assessment of development of children from 2 months to 3 years 6 months» (adapted version of KID-R and RCDI-2000). The study concluded that children born through caesarean section had no statistically significant differences with children born naturally over the entire age range. The analysis of the development of speech showed that at the beginning of an early age there were qualitative differences in the development of active speech between groups, but at the end of the period these differences were leveled. It is also worth noting that the analysis of the development of active speech in each group revealed a significant number of children with developmental deficiencies, which requires further analysis of the causes and the necessary corrective work with them.
