Abrosimov A.A., Zayvyy V.V.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the educational process in the transition to the level system of higher education in comparison with the specialty system.During the transition to the level system of education, the curriculum, a set of disciplines and the correlation between different types of educational activity in almost every discipline have significantly changed.Comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of training in the specialty system and the level system for those disciplines that have passed from the specialty system and the level system, is able to assess the indicated transition, limited only by these disciplines. Therefore, the parameters of comparison are indicators of the development of students who have been trained in the specialty system and students studying in the level system. The studies were carried out on the basis of experimental data obtained by testing undergraduate students and specialty students. For detailed analysis, the separation of each of the two complete samples into approximate statistical intervals in which the comparison is being made. For the estimation in each statistical interval, differences in the average values of the accepted development indices and differences in the profiles of development indices within the samples and between the samples are analyzed. The most significant differences in the level of development of undergraduate and specialty students are revealed in the statistical interval "Normal", in which undergraduate students are inferior to specialty students in eight out of ten indicators. In the statistical intervals "More than normal" and "Less than the normal", undergraduate students in general are slightly inferior to specialty students. The study presents the comparison results for each accepted development indicator.Reduction in the development level of undergraduate students in comparison with specialty students can be the result of several factors. At present, the reason of the decrease is not possible to be indicated.

Ziyatdinova Y.N.

Abstract

Globalization of the world economy and internationalization of higher education present new challenges to the university graduates. Today’s graduates should be professionally competitive in the global labor market and possess both hard and soft skills, including a wide range of personal traits that contribute to effective teamwork and communication. Among soft skills, one of the priorities is intercultural communication in a foreign language, ‘lingua franca’, which is English nowadays. Therefore, the majority of the Russian engineering universities offer minor degree programs in foreign languages to their students. These programs used to be regulated by the state educational standards for minor degree program ‘Translator in the Sphere of Professional Communication’, which terminated in 2013 after the new ’Law on Education in the Russian Federation’ came into force. Nowadays, every Russian university is empowered to develop and run its own minor degree programs, their curriculum can be flexible depending on thedemand of the particular interest groups. The majority of the universities keep the name of the program ‘Translator in the Sphere of Professional Communication’, but they change its content significantly. The issue under discussion is the ratio between the theoretical and practical courses in the study plan. On the one hand, minor degree programs aim to develop practical skills of the students, on the other hand, translation theory is also very important. The paper describes the experience of Kazan National Research Technological University in running its minor degree programs in foreign languagesand finding balance between theory and practice in the curriculum. The paper presents a new course developed combining theoretical and practical issues of translation and interpreting, the detailed content of the course, its interrelation with other courses of the study plan, and the learning outcomes. The paper concluded that blending theory and practice of translation in one course contributes to developing self-directed learning skills of the students thus improving the final learning outcomes.

Toporkova O.V.

Abstract

The article considers the history of engineering education in our country in the pre-revolutionary period. What makes the study topical is the need for scientific understanding of the historical and pedagogical process of the development of Russian higher technical education, which will contribute to understanding its current state and determining the prospects for its development. As a result of the historical and pedagogical analysis, four stages of development of Russian higher technical education are defined: the stage of the emergence of professional technical education (the eighteenth century), the stage of the establishment of the system of technical education in Russia (the end of the 18th to the 50-s of the 19th century), the stage of increasing centralization in the management of the engineering education system (60-s - the mid-90-s of the 19 century), the stage of priority development of the Polytechnic Higher School (the second half of the 90-s of the 19 century - 1917). The article also presents the main characteristics of traditional models of engineering education in the Russian Empire, which include specialized branch institutes that train engineers just for one industry; technological institutes, traditionally teaching mechanical engineers and chemical engineers; multi-specialty polytechnic institutes; non-state higher technical school. Polytechnic institutes received priority development in pre-revolutionary Russia, realizing the idea of a rational combination of encyclopedic knowledge and narrow specialization in technical education.

Model of monitoring the quality of work of the university teacher

Fadeeva О.V.

Abstract

One of the priority objectives of the reform of the modern education system is to improve the quality of education, which is understood as the level of training of students to Federal state standards and requirements in the field of education. The current Federal state educational standards are competence-oriented, that is, the result of the learning process is seen as a formed complex of General cultural, General professional and professional competencies. To determine the level of achievability of the tasks required effective mechanisms for assessing the degree of assimilation of students of the educational program - both external and internal. Systems of self-control and self-improvement become an integral part of the continuous process of work of any educational institution. In particular, the problem of increasing the effectiveness of the internal system of educational organization in the field of assessing the quality of teaching becomes particularly urgent. In this paper, based on the results of the study, a mathematical model for assessing the quality of students ' development of a set of competencies within a single discipline based on a comparison of the results of the current and intermediate certifications is proposed. This approach to assessing the work of the teacher is based on the idea of comparing the current and intermediate certifications, while the current certification is considered as an indicator of the level of preparedness of the student, and the result of the intermediate certification is considered as an indicator of the level of formation of competencies within the discipline. The considered method is based on the principle of interrelation of results of two types of certifications - intermediate and final, and for the purpose of increase of efficiency of work of this model and teaching in General it is possible to consider the offer on division of procedures of training and certification. The presented model of comparison of the results of the current and final work of students can be applied in the formation of effective mechanisms of internal evaluation of the quality of the educational program.
