Students‘ attitudes in the perception of broadcast advertising meanings

Belousova E.E.

Abstract

The aim of the research presented in the paper is the empirical study of the semantic attitudes and life meanings of students in the perception of advertising posters. Advertising impact is viewed as a process of broadcasting the meanings concentrated in advertising posters. The study sample consisted of 80 students from two universities (Rostov-on-Don, Russia). To determine the severity of life meanings, the method of life meanings was used by V.Yu. Kotlyakov (V.Yu. Kotlyakov, 2003), the method of expert assessments was used to study advertising posters. The results were processed using the methods of mathematical statistics: descriptive statistics were used; as well as nonparametric tests — for comparing several independent samples, the Kruskal-Wallis H-test, for studying the relationships between the scales of V.Yu. Kotlyakov and the assessment of advertising posters by the respondents used the Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. It was shown that in the process of broadcasting meanings in advertising posters, students’ semantic attitudes are actualized. The sample of students showed a tendency to evaluate advertising posters in accordance with the dominant meanings of life. It is shown that there is a relationship between the dominant life meanings of students and the ratings of advertising posters.

Attracting children’s attention to literature through the object of project activity-table theater

Kaukina O.V., Erastova A.A.

Abstract

Today, there are many electronic devices that can replace the things we are used to. Today’s children and adolescents spend more and more time learning new means of communication and searching for information, which is why traditional means (books, communication, experience) take a back seat and eventually become less important for overall development. While studying in primary school, it is easier for children to work with Internet sources because of the simplicity and conciseness of information that is in General use. Reading material from a book is replaced by gadgets. The very concept of «reading» has acquired a different meaning, has ceased to be a part of culture. Many parents and teachers face this problem when trying to teach their children to read literature. The purpose of this project is to find an alternative way to attract children to literary works through the object of project activity-table theater for children.

Pedagogical conditions for the organization of work with vocationally oriented text in the process of teaching a foreign language

Pushkareva I.A.

Abstract

The author of the paper attempts to develop a set of pedagogical conditions that contribute to the organization of effective work of students with a vocationally oriented text in the process of learning a foreign language in order to form common cultural and professional competencies.

To consider a vocationally oriented text as a means of creating common cultural and professional competencies, it is necessary to create certain pedagogical conditions for students that contribute to the effectiveness of this process. In this regard, the author of the paper tried to identify and substantiate the pedagogical potential of a vocationally oriented text, instructional conditions for organizing work with it and psychological and pedagogical conditions based on the personal characteristics of students, responsible for the perception of information as a fundamental component of the communication process.

The author discloses the concept of «pedagogical conditions» and creates a set of basic pedagogical conditions for organizing the effective work of students with a vocationally oriented text. The conditions determining the pedagogical potential of the text are discussed, within the framework of which the sequence of the students passing certain stages of work is shown, in order to create their own meaning and «counter» text. Instructional conditions are analyzed, defining forms, techniques and methods of training, contributing to the effective organization of work with the text, and indicators of formation of declared competencies are highlighted. As part of study of psychological and pedagogical conditions, the possibilities of organizing the educational process are considered, taking into account the psychological and personal characteristics of students.

The paper discloses the need to organize training on the basis of authentic texts, as a means of introducing students to the cultural values of the English-speaking countries, in order to search for their own meanings, form self-consciousness, reflection and skills to interact in intercultural communication.

The introduction of the considered pedagogical conditions into the educational process made it possible to systematize work with a vocationally oriented text and showed its effectiveness in the formation of common cultural and professional competencies.

Methodological aspects of the application of audio-visual tools for learning a foreign language and translation at the university

Popova N.V., Stepanova M.M., Kuzmina A.V.

Abstract

The paper discusses the methodological aspects of audio-visual materials use in teaching students a foreign language and translation. The advantages of using video materials in the university educational process are described. A brief overview of teaching technologies is presented, including the technology of writing subtitles, audiovisual technology for shooting video by students, as well as technologies for viewing video in a silent and freeze-frame mode.

A new audiovisual technology for teaching a foreign language to undergraduate students of a technical profile with the use of VideoAnt and MindMeister electronic resources to create a mental map is considered in detail. This three-stage technology, which is based on the use of advertising video material from the American company CISCO, has been tested at the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications named after Professor M.A. Bonch-Bruevich (SPbSUT) for students majoring in «Service».

There are also four formats of assignments for oral and written summary translation of video clips for master students of the translation profile of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). According to the survey of the students majoring in linguistics, the most interesting and useful task for future translators was the task of interpreting video fragments in the classroom mode.

A brief analysis of the questionnaire survey results of two students samples, technical and linguistic training profiles, is given, most of whom preferred to perform audiovisual tasks in the mode of psychologically more comfortable extracurricular independent work. The mode of independent out-of-class work with video materials, well tested during the period of self-isolation, is preferred by 60% of the students from two samples. The proposed application of audiovisual aids for teaching foreign languages and translation to university students is shown to be efficient.
